Safe, effective and challenging training for all ages and fitness levels

Training with two kettlebells

Kettlebell training provides all-round fitness, improved body mechanics and posture. Within a class we will normally cover 4-5 drills, some more cardio based, some strength focused and other more technical. We often find kettlebell training reduces back and knee pain by improving mobility and strength.

One of the great things about kettlebells is that it does not matter how fit or unfit you think you are, as you can choose your pace, reps and weights accordingly.

As with everything, come along and try it. Unless you really hate it, give it a few sessions to get comfortable with things and see how it can improve your health and fitness.

What is a kettlebell?

The kettlebell or a girya is a cast iron weight that looks like a cannon ball with a handle. The kettlebell has actually been around for centuries, hoisted by Romans and Russians alike! Kettlebells come in poods. A pood is an old Russian measure of weight which equals 16kg, or 36 pounds. Don’t panic, they are available from 4kg upwards.

What makes kettlebells different?

The answer lies in the design of the kettlebell. With dumbbells and barbells the weight is evenly distributed, in effect balanced for you

The weight in a kettlebell on the other hand is displaced, causing a constant pull so that you need to counter balance, thus placing the whole neuromuscular system under constant challenge. Kettlebells also allow for greater range of motion which improves flexibility.

A fun, total body, strength and cardiovascular workout: achieve results in half the time. Kettlebell training is proven to burn up to 600 calories in 30 minutes!
